I am willing to guess that I am not the only person who gets in their own way and makes projects bigger than they need to be. Many of you might be in similar situations with projects that are important, but not urgent (at least not urgent yet).
Welcome to Simply Organized Life! I am so glad you are here. Make your self a cup of tea and stay awhile.
All My Best, Carolyn
I am willing to guess that I am not the only person who gets in their own way and makes projects bigger than they need to be. Many of you might be in similar situations with projects that are important, but not urgent (at least not urgent yet).
It hit me as I was clearing out my bookshelf of travel guides in preparation for a home improvement project. There were all the books I had bought for trips taken over the years. Around 25 years worth of books, moved from place to place, in a bookshelf on top of almost 25 year old carpet that has seen better days.
Since March 2020 there has been a lot of talk about returning to “normal”. I never liked that wording, because this pandemic experience changed me. It opened my eyes to new things, or things that I choose not to see, and it broke open my heart. So instead of returning to "normal" (whatever that means?), I am "Reclaiming Routines" lost in the shuffle of the past few years. My focus is both on the practical and the spiritual. These are routines for getting stuff done AND feeling in true alignment.
A lot of not so big tasks, sometimes feel big to me. Can you relate? Almost always, these "big tasks" are quite easy when we just sit down to do it.
Overwhelmed. When clients call for help, this is the word I hear over and over again. I understand. I often feel overwhelmed myself. I want to do it all. I want to feel like things are in order. I also want and need a little breathing room, literally and figuratively. The truth is that I cannot do it all, but I can give myself some margin. I do this with an incredibly simple technique.
Ms. Hamadey wrote her thank yous based on a monthly theme, much like Gretchen Rubin approached her resolutions in The Happiness Project. Since my 2022 is off to a slow start, rather than setting a lot of big goals for the entire year, I am taking a cue from these authors and focusing on a monthly theme. January 2022 was "Catch Up, Clear Out".
I come to you with a grateful heart. Many thanks to each and every one of you for sharing this journey with me. Thank you to those who tell me how my work impacts your life and to those I have worked with over the years through seminars or one on one consulting.
This month, I will share some of the simple things that we do at my home to reduce waste in our kitchen.
How are you doing as we transition into a time change and the coming winter season? While transitions can be challenging for myself and my family, I love the opportunity nature gives us to stop, look and listen. For me, the cold dark days are a great time to turn inward. I enjoy the cozy season and the slower pace.
